Franco Capotorti took his Degree in Geological Science (1988) and a Phd in Geological Science at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" (1993).
He works at the Department of Geological Survey of Italy, Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). He is a geologist with specific expertise in carbonate analysis, geological mapping. His research activities focused mainly on Mesozoic and Cenozoic carbonate successions and structural analysis related to different sectors of the Latium, Abruzzi and Umbria areas. In recent years he cooperated in studies on seismic microzonation.
He is the Scientific director of the "Antrodoco" Geological Sheet 1:50.000 scale, and he mapped the carbonate successions of the "Rieti" and "Norcia" Geological Sheets 1:50.000 scale. He worked also on seismic microzonations in the Central Apennine area.
Since 1999 he has been rewieving the geological maps concerning the CARG National Project (Geological Mapping project, Scale 1:50.000) of the Toscana, Marche, Umbria and Latium regions.
Since 2017 he has been contributing on the RETRACE project, aimed at the 3D characterization of the crustal volume affected by the Central Apennine earthquake.
Keywords: Mesozoic and Cenozoic stratigraphy, geological mapping, sedimentology of marine successions, structural analysis, seismic microzonation.
