Fabio Massimo Petti is graduated in Geology at the Sapienza, University of Rome. He gained a PhD in Palaeontology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. From 2000 to 2006 he was member of the task group, controlled and coordinated by the Italian Commission on Stratigraphy, that elaborated and updated the "Catalogue of the Italian Geological Formations", one of the projects connected to the realisation of the Geological Map of Italy on the scale of 1:50.000 (CARG projects). From 2007 he cooperates with the Geology and Paleontology section of the MUSE, Science Museum of Trento (formerly MTSN), benefiting of a post-doc grant funded by the Provincia Autonoma of Trento. The topic of the post-doc project was the study of dinosaur footprints as constraints in the palaeogeographical and palaeoecological reconstrucions of the Central Mediterranean area during the Late Triassic-Late Cretaceous interval. He is assistant editor, from 2007, of the Bollettino della Società Paleontologica Italiana, the italian journal devoted to Paleontology and, from 2014, of the Natural History Sciences (formerly Atti della Società italiana di Scienze naturali e del Museo civico di Storia naturale in Milano). From 2011 is member of the council of the Italian Geological Society, editorial manager of the Italian Journal of Geosciences, Rendiconti Online della Società Geologica Italiana and Geological Field Trips and Maps. He has published 47 papers in international journals. He served as referee for numerous journals including Plosone, Palaeogeography-Palaeoclimatology-Palaeoecology, Historical Biology, Cretaceous Research, Geosciences Journal, Sudi Trentini di Scienze Naturali Acta Geologica, Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.
In 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019 was member of the Organizing Committee of the Italian Geological Society congresses.
